This draft will be a very interesting draft for the Yankees for a multiple of reasons. Right now we don’t know if Damon Oppenheimer will be back to run the draft. With that up in the air the other major issues is because the Yankees dropped almost $30 million on international free agents which will limit them. So having a first round pick and having multiple picks will be important.
A qualifying offer will be offered to David Robertson for sure. If he leaves, the Yankees will get another pick. Why I don’t believe this actually will happen as I believe the Yankees will retain David Robertson since if this post season didn’t show teams that dominate bullpens are more important than anything else.
The other possible qualifying offer is Kuroda who may or may not pitch next year. There is a big risk that he may accept it but I believe he will decline the offer and might either retire or take offers from either one of the LA teams as they both need pitching and have lots of money.
So the Yankees might have three first round picks and the last time they did that was when they picked Judge, Jagielo and Clarkin. So far those three picks have worked out pretty well for the Yankees and restocking the system is important.
