The Tampa Yankees were back at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday night to start a six game homestand, tonight’s matchup against the Clearwater Threshers in the final game of this series with the division rival.RHP Jonathan Holder (ERA 1.76) took the start for the T-Yanks against Clearwater’s RHP Victor Arano (ERA 5.40). The Yanks’ power was back tonight as a big 7th inning helped to secure the 9-4 win.
The Threshers’ took an early 2-0 lead in the first and would keep the lead until the bottom of the 5th when the T-Yanks were finally able to get on the board. Tampa’s Isaias Tejada grounded out and would then be followed by a walk by Danny Oh. A RBI double by Ericson Leonora on a line drive to right would then make it a 2-1 ballgame. Leonora would then advance to 3rd after Angelo Gumbs grounded out and then scored after a RBI double by Mark Payton and tie the game at 2. Payton would then score off a RBI single by Tyler Wade to put Tampa up 3-2.
In the bottom of the 7th the Yanks would secure their win with a 5 run inning which included singles by Oh, Leonora, Gumbs, Payton and Snyder.
Holder would pitch 4 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs; striking out an impressive 7 batters. RHP Giovanny Gallegos (ERA 3.38) then pitched the next two innings allowing 2 hits and no runs. Lefty Evan Rutckyj (ERA 3.00) then took over for the Yanks on the mound pitching the 7th and 8th innings allowing 3 hits and 2 more runs by the Threshers. Conor Mullee (ERA 0.00) then finished out the game by pitching the 9th, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced as the T-Yanks take the series over the Threshers.
