MLB Network has been continuing their “Top 10 right now” series this week. On Wednesday, New York Yankees’ right fielder Aaron Judge was listed by MLB Network as the No. 4 right fielder in the Major Leagues. He sits behind Mookie Betts, Juan Soto, and Ronald Acuna Jr.
Judge, a Yankee favorite among fans, missed time in each of the last three seasons with injury (wrist in 2018, oblique in 2019, and a calf strain in 2020), however has still continued to produce and help his team.
In 2020, Judge batted .257/.336, .554, with a .891 OPS. He accumulated three doubles, nine home runs, and drove in 22 RBI’s in the COVID-19 shortened season.
In 2019, Judge batted .272/.381/.540, with a .921 OPS. He had 18 doubles, one triple, and 27 home runs, driving in 55 RBI’s in 2019.
On the field, in 2019, Judge had 177 put-outs and seven assists. In 2020, Judge had 45 put-outs and one assist.
Brian Hoch recently wrote an article discussing how Judge (and Giancarlo Stanton as well) has changed his winter workout program with hopes of staying injury free in 2021 and remaining on the field throughout the season. Cressey spoke to Hoch and discussed that one thing the trainers and coaching staff has to be mindful of with these guys are the stresses of being in cleats & standing around in cleats for long periods of time and how it has an effect on their bodies.
Cressey stated that both Judge and Stanton have been working extremely hard and putting in the work in preparation for the upcoming 2021 season.
