New York Yankees pitching prospect Domingo Acevedo is heading to the Trenton Thunder, according to a source with knowledge. The move was rumored last night after we reported that Domingo German would be promoted to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders but we were unable to confirm until today.
Acevedo, 23, is one of the hardest throwers in the game with a fastball that has been clocked as high as 103 miles per hour. So far this season he has started seven games for the Tampa Yankees where he was 0-4 with a 4.57 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings pitched.
Overall the right-hander owns a 9-11 record over 53 games, 52 starts, and a career 2.88 ERA. Over 240 1/3 minor league innings, he struck out 272 batters.
This season Acevedo was the Tampa Yankees team leader in strikeouts and second in innings pitched.
