Adams to Make Managerial Debut with GCL Yankees West in 2018

Former major league infielder David Adams will be making his managerial debut this season when he takes over the helm of the Gulf Coast League Yankees West team in 2018.

Adams, 30, made his coaching debut in 2017 when he was the defensive coach of the Gulf Coast League Yankees East.  He was initially drafted by the Yankees in the third round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and spent six seasons in the organization, making his major league debut on May 15, 2013.  From 2014-2016 he spent time with the Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, and Toronto Blue Jays organizations.  In 701 career minor league games he hit .282/.369/.420 with 167 doubles, 22 triples, and 45 home runs.

Gabe Luckert is returning as the pitching coach for the GCL Yankees West in 2018, last season.  Before joining the Yankees, he spent 16 seasons with the Atlanta Braves organization where he was pitching coach for the Danville Braves, Rome Braves, GCL Braves and DSL Braves.

The hitting coach for the GCL Yankees West will be Rich Arena, who will be entering his twelfth overall season with the Yankees organization.  Last season he served as the hitting coach for the DSL Yankees.  From 2012-2016 he was a coach with the Miami Marlins organization where was the hitting coach for the Jamestown Jammers, assistant hitting coach for the Jacksonville Suns and hitting coach for the Batavia Muckdogs.  Before he coached with the Marlins, he was the Director of Scouting for Team One Management and the head coach at Tampa Catholic High School.  From 1989-2006 he was with the Yankees as a scout and coach.  He had previously coached for the Oneonta Yankees in 1989, Greensboro Hornets in 1990, GCL Yankees in 1992, Prince William Cannons in 1993 and Tampa Yankees in 1996.

Hector Ragabo and Antonio Pacheco will serve as the defensive coaches for the GCL Yankees West this season.  Rabago is entering his fifth season with the Yankees as a coach after being drafted in 2009 MLB Draft and playing from 2009-2013.  Last season Rabago was the defensive coach for the Charleston RiverDogs.  Pacheco is entering his third season as the defensive coach for the GCL Yankees West and fourth overall with the Yankees.
