RICHMOND, VA — Chance Adams saw his immaculate 13-0 record blemished in a 7-2 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Thursday night at The Diamond. The Thunder completed their road trip with a 5-2 mark; winning both series’ against Harrisburg and Richmond.
The Thunder staked Adams to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Dante Bichette Jr.. However, a Tyler Wade error in the third inning opened the door for a two-run inning for the Squirrels. CJ Hinojosa singled in both runs with a flare to right.
The 2-1 lead for the home team held into the fifth when Richmond managed five runs off of Adams. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Christian Arroyo served a base hit the other way to plate two more runs and later in the inning Hunter Cole brought in a run with a groundout and Tyler Horan blooped a double down the left field line to score another.
After the seventh run crossed home, Adams was lifted from the game. Chance allowed a career high in runs (seven) and matched a career-high for hits allowed (six) on Thursday night, though hardly any of the hits recorded were well-struck. Adams’ combined season record falls to 13-1 and his ERA jumped to 2.20 for the season.
The Thunder added a late run in the eighth inning when Jose Rosario was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, however, Trenton couldn’t push anything further across the plate.
Tyler Wade had a three-hit game to lead the Thunder offense. Mark Montgomery and Travis Hissong combined to keep Richmond quiet for the rest of the game with 3.1 scoreless innings.
