KINGSPORT, Tenn – Austin Afenir, who is hitting ,381 (16-for-42) in his last 10 games, and Gosuke Katoh, who is batting ,371 (13-for-35) in his last 10, each had three hits as the Pulaski Yankees rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth to edge Kingsport, 6-5, in Appalachian League play Wednesday night.
The Yankees (17-12) and Mets (13-14) squared their three-game series before 614 fans at Hunter Wright Stadium. A power failure caused a 32-monute delay in the ninth inning. With the win, the Yankees remained in second place in the Appalachian League East, a game behind the Princeton Rays.
Right=hander Juan Jimenez (1-1) picked up his first win in relief. Kane Sweeney, who is batting ,364 (12-for-33) in his last 10, was named Appalachian Conference Player of the Week.
The teams play the rubber game of their three-game series at 7 tonight at Hunter Wright Field.
