Andujar ranked 3rd on MLB Pipeline’s Top 3B list

Another top New York Yankees prospect made their way into MLB Pipeline’s top position rankings. Today, it was Miguel Andujar who was named the third best third base prospect in all of baseball. It was a big jump for Andujar as he was ranked seventh on last year’s list.

Earlier this week, when Baseball America did their list of the top 100 prospects, Andujar was ranked as the 59th best prospect in baseball and the fourth highest in terms of Yankees prospects behind Gleyber Torres, Estevan Florial, and Justus Sheffield.

Andujar made a huge splash in the Yankees farm system in 2017 and he even got a chance to make his big league debut. In 125 games with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, he had a slash line of .315/.352/.498 with 16 home runs, 82 RBI’s, and 151 hits.

In 42 games after the International League All-Star Break last year, the now 22-year-old was red hot at the plate. He hit .339 with seven home runs and 23 RBI’s and he had an on-base percentage of .447. Out of the 58 games he played with Scranton, he had two or more hits in 19 of those games.

Due to that success at Triple-A, Andujar got a chance to make his Yankees debut on June 28 against the Chicago White Sox. On that night, he went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI’s in the team’s 12-3 win.

Right now, Andujar is slated as the starting third baseman for the big league club in 2018 if the Yankees don’t make a move to sign a veteran. He has the tools to succeed from an offensive standpoint, but the 17 errors he had in the minor leagues last year show he has a long way to go defensively. With that being said, it was an improvement from the 22 errors he made in 2016.

It is safe to say that Yankees fans should be excited about Andujar going into this season. He has the chance to become the third baseman of the future with a strong 2018 campaign as fans think about whether or not the Yankees should spend big money on Manny Machado or another top free agent next winter.
