BINGHAMTON, NY – The longest game of the season for the Trenton Thunder ended in a walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning from the Binghamton Mets for a 3-2 B-Mets win.
Before 1,793 fans at NYSEG Stadium, the Trenton Thunder got on the board first with a solo home run from Dustin Fowler just six pitches into the game off Tyler Pill. From there the Thunder added a run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout from Sebastian Valle, but that would be it from the offense the rest of the way.
Starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery turned-in his longest start as a member of the Thunder, going 6.1 innings while allowing two earned runs in a no-decision. Montgomery had faced the minimum 18 batters through the first six innings while allowing a walk and a single before the first three men reached to begin the bottom of the seventh inning. Two of the three runners scored, but J.R. Graham and Jonathan Holder combined for 4.2 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen.
In the top of the 12th inning, Billy Fleming doubled to begin the inning and was advanced to third base with one out on a fly ball to right field by Dante Bichette Jr. The Thunder couldn’t get the run home with less than two outs, and the game moved to the bottom of the 12th inning where Binghamton loaded the bases with two walks and a hit, before they walked-off with a 3-2 win.
Michael O’Neill finished 2-for-5 in his second career Double-A game, collecting half the hits for the Thunder on the night, with his first career hit with the Thunder helping set up the fifth-inning run.
The game marked the final meeting of the regular season between the two East Division foes in Binghamton — with the Thunder capturing a 4-3 winning record at NYSEG Stadium this year.
The Thunder pile on the bus following Thursday’s ballgame and head westward to Erie, PA to take on the Erie SeaWolves. The two teams go head-to-head for the final time this season with four games over three days from Friday to Sunday, including a doubleheader Saturday. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with LHP Daniel Camarena (3-0, 2.08) facing Erie’s LHP Josh Turley (0-4, 6.33).
