Opponent: at Pittsburgh Pirates
Result: 6-3 loss
2017 Record: 10-6, second place (1.5 GB)
Game Summary: Errors cost both the Yankees and Pirates on Friday night, as four were committed in total. Pittsburgh capitalized on a Starlin Castro dropped fly ball in the bottom of the seventh inning. The fielding error led to two runs, stretching Pittsburgh’s lead to 6-3. Prior to the big fielding miscue, the Pirates got out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to home runs by Jordy Mercer and Josh Bell, along with a one run single by David Freeze. The Yankees were able to capitalize on fielding errors by rookie right fielder Jose Osuna and Josh Harrison, by scoring three runs in the top of the third and top of the fifth respectively. The unearned runs for the Yankees were enough to bring them back into the game, but the offense just couldn’t string enough hits together to overcome CC Sabathia’s four earned runs plus Starlin Castro’s error.
Aaron Judge – Judge impressed by hitting several balls hard on Friday night, however, he ended up going 1-5 with a strikeout.
Greg Bird – Bird took a 0-4 with a strikeout in Friday’s 6-3 loss to the Pirates.
