Game #14

Opponent: vs Chicago White Sox

Result: 4-1 loss

2017 Record: 9-5, tied with Baltimore and Boston for 1st place

Game Summary: The Chicago White Sox snapped the Yankees eight game winning streak at Yankee Stadium Tuesday evening. White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez stifled New York’s offense, throwing 8.1 innings of four hit and one run baseball. The lone Yankees run came in the bottom of the ninth when Chicago closer David Robertson walked in Chase Headley from third. New York showed fight until the very end, but was just not able to solve Gonzalez or capitalize on their ninth inning rally. Leury Garcia put the Sox on the board in the third with a solo shot. Avisail Garcia followed in the top of the seventh with a three-run dinger, giving Chicago a 4-0 advantage.

Aaron Judge – Judge went 0-4 with two strikeouts. He came up in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs but grounded out to White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, ending the game.

Greg Bird – Bird went 0-3 against Chicago starter Miguel Gonzalez.

Luis Severino – Severino pitched better than the box score may read. He got ahead of hitters early and often, struck out 10, walked none, and permitted just three hits over eight innings of work. The three-run home run that he gave up was off the heels of a fielding error by Yankee shortstop Pete Kozma. It is interesting to note that Severino primarily used only two pitches, his fastball and slider.

Jonathan Holder – Holder tossed one hitless and scoreless inning of relief. He did not allow a baserunner and struck out one.
