Dante Bichette Jr and Cito Culver showed why they are considered some of the most talked about young prospects in the Yankees Farm System on Friday night as they helped the Tampa Yankees defeat the Jupiter Hammerheads 9-6 and tied the series.
LHP Eric Wooten (ERA 3.25) took the start for the Yanks and had a rocky five inning outing, allowing 9 hits and 5 runs; striking out two. The Hammerheads got off to an early 4-0 lead, but the Yanks were able to strike back. Tampa’s first run was scored by a RBI single by Culver to send Claudio Custodio home.
The bottom of the fifth was by far the most vital inning for Tampa as they tied the game at 5. The inning began with Cody Grice hitting a single on a ground ball to third. Jake Cave later hit his tenth double of the season advancing Grice to third. Cito Culver was back at it again as he hit another single this time a fly ball to left field sending Grice home. A sac fly by Greg Bird then send Cave home for another run for Tampa. Dante Bichette’s thirteenth double of the season sent Culver home and another double this time by Zach Wilson, sent Bichette home to tie the game.
RHP Nick Goody (ERA 4.91), who continued to rehab from Tommy John Surgery, pitched the sixth inning for the Yanks allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2 batters.
But, it was a three run homer by Bichette who helped put the Yanks ahead in the sixth inning.
RHP Stefan Lopez (ERA 5.14) took the next two innings on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2.
Goody earned the win (1-0) and LHP James Pazos (ERA 3.32) who closed out the ninth for the Yanks and fanned the side earned the save (4).

The Tampa Yankees will now travel to the Space Coast to take on the Brevard County Manatees for a three game series on Saturday.
