TRENTON, NJ – Dante Bichette Jr. drove in four runs across his at-bats in the sixth and seventh innings to lead the Thunder to a 7-4 victory over the Erie Seawolves at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Thunder offense went to work against reliever Confesor Lara. Dustin Fowler led off the inning with a single, stole second, and scored on Tyler Austin‘s opposite field double. After Jake Cave flew out to left, Bichette Jr. smashed a two-run home run to center field to give the Thunder a 4-3 advantage.
In the seventh, Bichette Jr. came through again with the bases loaded and two out. Facing Paul Voelker, Bichette Jr. punched a base hit to right to plate a pair of insurance runs for the Thunder and take a 6-3 lead.
The teams would trade runs in the eighth inning and right-hander Mark Montgomery fired a scoreless ninth inning to nail down the victory.
RHP Cale Coshow went the first 5.1 innings for the Thunder on the mound. He allowed three runs on four hits and a pair of walks. Coshow, Giovanny Gallegos, Conor Mullee, and Montgomery combined for a season-high 12 strikeouts.
Every Thunder batter recorded a hit in the game and the team stole seven bases. In 2015, the Thunder’s season-high for stolen bases in a game was five. OF Dustin Fowler went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI and three stolen bases.
Your Thunder will play game three of their season against the Seawolves on Saturday evening at 5pm. RHP Ronald Herrera will start for the Thunder, RHP Tommy Collier will go for Erie.
