Yankees prospect Tyler Austin and Greg Bird were once again key contributors to the Scottsdale Scorpions in game two against the Salt River Rafters. Austin batted sixth for the Scorpions, in four at bats he had one run and one RBI. Bird also had one hit and a run.
The Scorpions held off the Rafters with quick outs in the top of the first. Plays by shortstop Matt Reynolds called the first two batters out. The third out came when center fielder Roman Quinn caught a line drive.
Excitement began during the bottom of the fourth after the scorpions earned three runs, two RBI’s and a steal. The first run was scored by Bird after a single hit from Austin. With players on first and third Tomlinson was next at bat. Tomlinson, earned an RBI, bringing home Bell and Austin, after a fielding error. Tomlinson went on to steal second, but the Scorpions ended their streak soon after.
Austin made contact again in the bottom of the ninth inning, but was called out after a play from the Rafters third baseman.
The Scorpions return to play tomorrow as the away team against the Peoria Javelinas.
