Greg Bird and Tyler Austin each contributed a run, while Kyle Haynes pitched a clean inning, despite the Scorpions 6-3 loss to the Mesa Solar Sox.
Both prospects batted 1-4, earning a run, and for Austin an RBI. Bird continued his role as first baseman, while Austin found himself playing left field. Both contributed to well-played defense.
The fourth inning was full of good playing by the Yankees prospects. Bird was first to take the plate, singling on a line drive to left field. Austin also singled on a line drive, bringing Bird home, for the Scorpions first run of the game. Austin also scored a run, after a fielding error.
Haynes entered the game in the top of the third, pitching l.2 innings. During that time Haynes, held off the Solar Sox, where they scored no runs, or connected for any hits.
Pitchers, Caleb Cotham and Alex Smith also got in tonight’s game. Cotham entered the game in the top of the fifth, where he pitched two innings, letting up two hits, and two runs, both being homers. Smith came in, in the top of the seventh, pitching .2 innings, during which the Solar Sox earned two hits and a run.
The Scorpions return to play tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. MST against the Surprise Saguaros.
