A homerun by Greg Bird and two runs by Aaron Judge made the Yankees Prospects key players in the Scottsdale Scorpions 6-2 win against the Peoria Javelinas.
Bird, who was the Scorpions designated hitter and fourth in the batting lineup, went 1-4 in his at bats, with one run and 3 RBI’s. Judge played right field, batting third and connecting for one of his two at bats with two runs and was walked twice.
In the bottom of the first inning, Bird was walked on his first at bat. Next up was Bird who reached on a force attempt, bringing home teammates Brandon Nimmo and Judge.
Prospect Alex Smith, pitched one inning, entering the game in the top of the sixth. He struck out his first batter, and went on to pitch a clean inning with no hits or runs, but walked one batter.
In the top of the eighth, Bird connected for a homerun on a line drive to center field. His hit also brought home runners, Nimmo and Judge.
The Scorpions return to play tomorrow against the Surprise Saguaros. The Scorpions will play as the away team.
