Bowie Hex Befalls Thunder Again; Utley Rehabbing with Reading

BOWIE, Md. – Looking to salvage a split of their four-game series on Sunday afternoon, the Thunder saw a late rally come up short as they fell 6-5 at Prince George’s Stadium to the Bowie Baysox.
With the defeat and a Reading victory, the Fightin Phils (who will have 2B Chase Utley rehabbing with them) will come to ARM & HAMMER Park in a tie for the Eastern League Wild Card on Tuesday night at 7:00pm. TICKETS
Bowie led 2-0 in the top of the fourth on Sunday afternoon when the Thunder took advantage of an error by RF Brandon Snyder to score two runs. The offense would add two more in the inning on an RBI single from Jose Rosario and an RBU double by Jake Cave in the inning.

The Thunder held a 4-3 advantage into the bottom of the seventh when the Baysox jumped in front with four straight hits and a sacrifice fly off reliever Alex Smith to grab a 6-4 advantage. Smith took his second loss of the season and allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings pitched.

In the top of the ninth, Jake Cave led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two out and two strikes on him, Mark Payton recorded his third hit of the game to score Cave and bring the Thunder within a run. However, Tony Renda grounded out harmlessly to second to finish off the defeat.

The Thunder recorded 12 hits in the game and saw every starter except for Ali Castillo have a hit in the game. LHP Evan Ritckyj made his Double-A debut in the eighth inning and threw a scoreless inning.

Your Thunder will begin a three-game set at ARM & HAMMER Park on Tuesday night at 7:00pm against the Reading Fightin Phils. The first 1,000 fans, age six and up, will receive Floor and Decor Handclappers on Tuesday night. The Thunder will send LHP Caleb Smith (8-5, 3.78) to the mound, the Fightins will counter with newly-acquired RHP Jake Thompson (6-6, 4.72).
