Bristol Edges Pulaski in Slugfest; Franklin, Katoh, Cortes Honored

BRISTOL, Va. – After weeks wrapping up close games to win the Appalachian League’s Eastern crown, the Pulaski Yankees (41-23) let one get away Friday night, as the Bristol Pirates (28-32) notched a 10-9 win with a four-run eighth inning.

A total of 833 fans watched the game in DeVault Memorial Stadium. Second baseman Gosuke Katoh and left fielder Nathan Mikolas each had two RBIs for the Yankees.

The teams will play the final game of their series at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Yankees will then head to Johnson City for a three-game series to finish the regular season.

Pulaski’s Tony Franklin was named Manager of the Year by the league, while Katoh, who is hitting .289, and lefty Nestor Cortes, who is 5-3, 2.34 in 11 appearances (nine starts) were named to the Appy All-Star Team.
