TRENTON, NJ – Vicente Campos, Tyler Jones and Jonathan Holder combined on the 11th shutout of the season for the Thunder pitching staff to lead the team to a 4-0 victory in front of 6,816 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park Friday night.
The 11 shutouts leads the Eastern League this season and the Thunder are on pace to match the league record of 16 in a season set by Altoona in 2015.
Dustin Fowler and Michael O’Neill each had three-hit games to lead the Thunder offense. It was Tyler Wade who scored the first run of the night in the third inning when Miguel Andujar drove him in with an RBI single. Kyle Higashioka followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Fowler and take an early 2-0 advantage against Mark Leiter Jr.
The Thunder added to their lead in the fifth when Fowler drove in O’Neill with a soft line drive to right field. In the sixth, O’Neill bunted his way aboard to score Cito Culver with two outs and make it 4-0.
Campos improved to 4-1 with six shutout innings allowing just three hits and one walk. The right-hander struck out three and threw an efficient 81 pitches to grab the victory. Tyler Jones struck out a pair across his two scoreless innings of relief and Jonathan Holder struck out the side in the ninth to put an exclamation point on the victory.
O’Neill matched a career-high with his three-hit night, Andujar finished the night with a two-hit game at the plate.
