In the first game of a doubleheader, the Charleston RiverDogs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Lakewood BlueClaws in an extra innings affair that lasted eight innings.
Lakewood scored their run in the top of the third after Domingo German opened up the inning with an error trying to throw out Carlos Duran at first. With two outs, Zach Coppola singled to chase home Carlos Duran and give the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead.
The RiverDogs came back in the bottom of the fourth with Jhalan Jackson ripping a triple into the left field corner. Alex Palma lofted a sac fly to left to bring Jackson home to tie the game at one.
German had a strong outing, going six innings, giving up one run while striking out 4, allowing just two hits.
Cody Carroll came into the game in the seventh in relief and pitched out of a bases loaded jam. He was unable to escape damage in the eighth. Lakewood loaded the bases with one out after Coppola was hit by a pitch, Cornelius Randolph singled to left and then Josh Tobias ripped a single to right. Damek Tomscha then doubled in two runs to give the BlueClaws a 3-1 lead.
Albert Tirado started for the BlueClaws and went four innings allowing three hits and one run. Jeff Singer then provided three innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory with Sutter McLoughlin pitching a perfect eighth inning for his third save of the year.
