Ian Anderson is a right handed starting pitching prospect that plays for Shenendehow High School in Clifton Park NY. Currently he is pitching to a .66 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 53.1 innings. Anderson is a very projectable right handed pitcher. He stands 6’3” tall and only weighs 170 pounds. Watching video he doesn’t even look that heavy at all.
Stuff: Anderson has a fresh arm because he plays up in the northeast. His fastball has been hitting the mid 90s consistently so far this spring. He compliments that with a upper 70’s curveball that is a true 11 to 5 bender. Like most high school players he has a changeup but doesn’t use it. From video thou it does appear that he has good arm speed with it. Repetition will be the key in everything for Anderson.
Commitment: Vanderbilt Commodores
My take: This would be a very good pick. There is a decent floor for Anderson with some good ceiling if he can maintain his velocity and add some weight in pro-ball. Anderson is a guy that will take full slot money to get out of his commitment thou. Vanderbilt is a great school and a case could be made that he could go higher after three years there. If he is available I think the Yankees take him especially considering Anderson will only turn 18 in May which means he is young for this draft class.
