The Tampa Yankees had an early offensive surge on Wednesday night at McKechnie Field which led to the to the 7-5 victory over the Bradenton Marauders.
In the first inning Tyler Wade’s two run homer on a fly ball to right center field with Abiatal Avelino on base to put Tampa up 2-0.
In the top of the second, Mark Payton hit a triple on a line drive to right field. He would then score off a sac fly by Ericson Leonora to put the Yanks up 3-0.
The T-Yanks increased their lead in the top of the third which began with Tyler Wade reached on a fielding error by Bradenton’s JaCoby Jones. He was then caught stealing when Mike Ford was at-bat. Ford and then Dante Bichette would hit consecutive singles to put runners on the corners with Payton at the plate. A RBI single by Payton sent Ford home and then a two run double by Ericson Leonora gave the Tampa Yankees a 6-0 lead.
A RBI double by Miguel Andujar then gave the Yanks a 7-0 lead.
Tampa Yankees’ starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery (ERA 2.89) pitched five innings allowing six hits and three runs which were scored off a three run homer by the Marauders’ JaCoby Jones in the fifth inning.
Evan Rutckyj (ERA 3.00) then took over pitching duties for the T-Yanks pitching the sixth and seventh innings of scoreless ball allowing just two hits and striking out four batters.
Luis Niebla (ERA 1.96) then took over in the eighth and allowed a run by the Marauders in each of the last two innings.
Montgomery earned the win (1-1) and Alex Smith who got Tampa’s last out, secured the save (3).
The Tampa Yankees have one more game before the FSL All-Star Break on Thursday night at 6:30pm against the Bradenton Marauders with Tampa sending Chaz Hebert (4.44, 4-4) to the mound.
