Our readers have spoken, and they have voted infielder Maikol Escotto as the Pinstriped Prospects Dominican Summer League Yankees Player of the Year. Escotto won the fan vote with 44% of the total votes. The voting was neck and neck and Escotto came out on top, beating Felix Alonzo, Agustin Ramirez, and others.
Escotto, 17, appeared in 45 games for the DSL Yankees in 2019 and was impressive. In 181 total at-bats, he hit .315/.429/.552 with 11 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, and 26 RBIs. He also walked 32 times and stole 13 bases.
He signed with the Yankees on $350,000 on July 2, 2018. He has shown strong ability in the field demonstrating above-average speed, a good arm, and has drawn some comparisons to former Met Jose Reyes. At the plate, Escotto was equally as impressive, the ball seems to just jump off his bat. At one-point this season he was averaging an exit velocity of 95 miles per hour, with 20% of his hits above that mark.
Escotto is expected to make his state-side debut in 2020 and could move quickly up prospect lists with his strong numbers and natural athleticism.
