Fiorito Clutch in 4-3 Thunder Win

Dan Fiorito’s three-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning boosted the Thunder to a 4-3 victory over the RubberDucks on Tuesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Trailing 3-1, the Thunder loaded the bases with one out against reliever Francisco Valera. Shawn Armstrong entered and struck out Yeral Sanchez before Fiorito lined an 0-1 offering into the right field corner to score all three baserunners.

Brandon Pinder earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief, including two strikeouts.

Bryan Mitchell took a no-decision in his return to the Thunder rotation, allowing just one run on four hits and one walk over five innings; he struck out six. RubberDuck starter Joe Colon also earned a no-decision despite allowing just one run over six innings.

Akron broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with a solo home run off the bat of Giovanny Urshela. In the seventh, Francisco Lindor singled home Tyler Naquin with two out to take a 3-1 lead.
