Hi, what are you looking for?

First Mock of 2015 Draft

A little over a week ago Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo put out an initial mock draft that went ten deep.  You can click here to read the 10 picks that they make.

What is very interesting about the list is it has a majority of college pitching.  College pitching tends to go early in the draft because most front offices believe that it is safer picks.

Most front offices have done studies that show that college picks tend to produce quicker than high school players.  This make sense as most high school players will go to a short season league when they sign and if they are very advanced they will go to Low A.  Especially when it comes to pitchers you tend to see them go one level at a time because they need the experience of pitching to advance competition but also they need to build up innings.  College pitchers who are elite tend to spend half a year at High A the year after being drafted then going to double A.

The other especially interesting thing is the up the middle talent.  They discuss Cameron who some feel is dropping in the draft.  They believe that he won’t drop as of right now past the tenth pick.  I think that it will really depend on his spring but going from the number one high school player to being drafted tenth it is conceivable that he go drop farther.
