Fog the Winner in Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) were three outs away from a win with their ace on the hill. But a dense, low-lying fog created horrific visibility that prompted the delay and eventual suspension of play against the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) on Monday night. The teams will finish the game to its full nine-inning conclusion starting at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday. A seven-inning game will follow.

The RailRiders will have a 2-1 lead when the game picks up at the start of the home fifth. SWB grabbed the lead thanks to a pair of two-out run-scoring hits. Kyle Roller drove Cole Figueroa home in the first and Mason Williams singled Taylor Dugas to the plate in the second.

Dugas also picked up a crucial outfield assist in the fourth. With two on and two out, Sean Ochinko doubled to left to score Luke Scott from second. Daric Barton tried to score from first as well, but Dugas hit Figueroa as the cutoff man and the relay to Eddy Rodriguez at the plate nabbed Barton to end the inning.

SWB starter Bryan Mitchell allowed one run over his four frames. He allowed five hits, issued a single walk and whiffed five. Buffalo’s Daniel Norris gave up two runs on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts over his five innings.

In the regularly-scheduled second affair on Tuesday SWB will hand the ball to right-hander Jaron Long (4-4, 4.42) while Buffalo is expected to start right-hander Scott Copeland (4-1, 1.97). SWB returns home to host the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) from June 11-14. The four-game set includes two fireworks nights and a Derek Jeter bobblehead giveaway on Saturday, June 13 courtesy of Allied Services. For tickets or more information, call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit the team’s website, www.swbrailriders.com.
