His team for 2015 is the Appalachian League Pulaski Yankees, but Tony Franklin will be piloting his old club, the Double-A Trenton Thunder, this weekend when the club returns home and opens a homestead with a series against the Harrisburg Senators.
This was announced by Thunder broadcaster Adam Giardino on the team’s radio network Tuesday night.
“I’ll be back or a visit in May or June,” Franklin said before Spring Training. “You’ll see me in Trenton.”
Thunder skipper Al Pedrique’s daughter is graduating from high school in Arizona, and Franklin will fill in for him this weekend. Two things are certain here. Frankin will get a standing ovation in Arm&Hammer Park, and this had to be the “visit” he was referring to a few months ago.
For a man seriously loved in the Greater Trenton community, it will be an enjoyable weekend. The ball club announced Wednesday he will be inducted into the Trenton Baseball Hall of Fame as well.
Franklin, of course, won three Eastern League championships in bis eight seasons at the Trenton helm, reaching the Eastern League Championship Series two other seasons. He is with the team during its quick three-gane trip to Binghamton.
Pulaski opens its Appalachian League season June 23, hosting the Danville Braves.
