Frias, Katoh Pace Pulaski; Playoffs Open Thursday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Right fielder Frank Frias homered for the second straight game as the Pulaski Yankees (43-23) opened a three-game series with the Cardinals (27-36) with a 2-1 win Sunday evening.

Infielder Gosuke Katoh, drove in the other Pulaski run before 1,334 fans at Howard Johnson Field. Righty Cody Hamlin picked up his first win of the season in relief of righty Jhon Morban. Righty Andrew Schwab recorded his sixth save for the Appalachian League East champions.

The Yankees will meet the Cardinals at 7 p,m. both Monday and Tuesday to close the regular season before opening the Appalachian League semifinals next Thursday night at an opponent to be determined. Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played at Calfee Park Friday. Game 3, if necessary, will also be at Calfee Saturday.
