On this week’s episode of From The Back Fields To The Bronx, Ricky Keeler is joined by Somerset Patriots beat writer and assistant managing editor Matt Kardos and Hudson Valley Renegades beat writer Steve Alhona. The show began by talking about the roster shuffle that has gone on the upper levels.
We discuss outfielders Estevan Florial and Thomas Milone and infielders Brandon Wagner and Hoy Jun Park going up to Triple-A and injuries in the organization causing the Double-A Somerset roster to look different. As for the players who are there, Dermis Garcia is on a home run surge and the back of the Patriots rotation has looked good on the road trip.
Then, we shift to Hudson Valley to talk about Oswald Peraza hitting five home runs on the recent homestead, Ken Waldichuk being the pitcher of the week, and Ezequiel Duran consistently hitting at the plate.
After updates on Scranton Wilkes-Barre (11-3 start) and the Tampa Tarpons offense, the conversation shifted to talking about a column in Baseball America about the sloppiness of play so far and whether or not that’s a concern, the Yankees having one of the top winning percentages in minor league baseball, and whether or not the minor leagues should have a rule where if a team runs out of scheduled pitchers before extra innings in a blowout that the game should be over.
