Following the RailRiders 5-2 victory over Pawtucket on Wednesday morning, right-handed reliever Giovanny Gallegos was informed that he was being promoted to the big leagues. Gallegos confirmed the news to Pinstriped Prospects on Thursday morning.
The 25-year old Gallegos is coming off of two consecutive dominant seasons in which he has posted a combined ERA of 1.49 in 77 games. He has fanned 170 in 144 innings over that span.
Thus far in 2017, Gallegos has gone 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 14 innings of work. The Yankees protected Gallegos from this past winters Rule 5 Draft and added him to the organizations 40-man roster.
Gallegos is expected to join the Yankees in time for their series opener against the Houston Astros in the Bronx on Thursday.
