After five innings at the Yankees’ complex, the GCL Yankees 1 led the GCL Phillies 5-1. If only it had started raining.
The Phillies went on to outscore the Yankees 13-2 in the final four innings, beating up particularly on relievers Francis Joseph, Chris Cabrera, and Dayton Dawe for nine hits and twelve of those runs.
The game was started by Preston Claiborne, who is on an injury rehabilitation assignment, and he was relieved by Caleb Cotham, who is also rehabbing. They combined for eight outs without allowing a run.
The offense produced ten hits, led by the multiple-hit efforts of Drew Bridges, Alexander Palma, and designated hitter Miguel Mojica. In the month of August, Palma is slashing .405/.405/.486. He obviously is an aggressive hitter, but he’s produced 15 hits in his last nine games. Bridges homered today and has put up .313/.414/.729 with four homers in his last 14 games.
It must have been raining in Disney World early today, as the GCL Yankees 2 were postponed against the GCL Braves, who play on Disney property in Orlando.
