A new day meant a new result in the head-to-head battles of the Gulf Coast Yankees teams. On Saturday the GCL Yankees 1 edged the Yankees 2 by a score of 7-6.
The hitting standouts for the Yankees 1 were third baseman Donny Sands and designated hitter Jordan Barnes. Sands had two hits, walked once, scored twice, and drove in two, while Barnes doubled, tripled, walked twice, scored a run, and knocked in a run.
Reliever Bret Marks (2-0) got the win after the Yankees 1 took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the work of Jose Pujols in the middle innings gave his team a chance to win. Pujols struck out three in 2.2 innings without allowing a run, and he was the only pitcher on either team to have a zero in the earned run column on Friday.
The loss went to Gean Batista (1-1), as he was responsible for the two runs the Yankees 1 scored in the eighth inning.
The Yankees 2 enjoyed the first professional home run of Isiah Gilliam, who hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning. They also got two more hits from Yancarlos Baez, who now has a nine-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .388.
