The GCL Yankees 1 (25-13) racked up 13 hits in defeating the GCL Tigers 7-5 in Tampa. The first five hitters in the lineup went a combined 10 for 22, including multiple hits from Billy Fleming, Leonardo Molina, Alexander Palma, and Drew Bridges. Fleming continued the torrid start to his Yankee career by going 3 for 3 with two walks and two doubles. He is now 15 for his first 31. The light has stayed on for Bridges, who is now 11 for his last 36 after a very slow start.
On the pitching side, Austin DeCarr went three innings, striking out three and not allowing a hit. In his last 11 innings, he has struck out 13 while allowing only 4 hits.
The pitchers of GCL Yankees 2 (25-16) gave up only five hits to the GCL Phillies, but unfortunately the offense only chipped in five hits of their own as the Yankees lost 2-1 in Clearwater. Nestor Cortes, in relief of Eduardo Rivera who surrendered both runs, pitched 4.2 innings of shut-out baseball while striking out three. In Cortes’ last 16 innings, he has given up only three earned runs while punching out 18.
There wasn’t much to talk about on the offensive side, as the only hits came on singles from Jose Figueroa, Jake Anderson, Frank Frias, Graham Ramos, and Jordan Barnes.
