The Braves made a run at the end of the game scoring six runs in the final two innings but it wasn’t enough. The Yankees won nine to eight to finish the month with only one loss. Now wins and loses don’t matter in the minors but this is still a very good feat.
It was another day and another big game for Jerison Lopez. The second base prospect had three hits out of five plate appearance today. Two of his three hits went for doubles. It has only been 38 at bats to start the season but it’s a very good start for the 20 year old. If the hot heating continues expect him to be promoted to SI.
2012 draftee Chris Breen had his best pro day since signing. He went two for three with two doubles. The 12th round pick wasn’t a highly recruited and didn’t have a scouting report anywhere I could find. I hope the Yankees found a diamond in the rough but only time will tell.
To start the game Melvin Mercedes pitched fine going two innigs while giving up one earned run to go along with a strikeout. Kenedy Agramonte backed him up by going three innings with only giving up one hit and struck out three batters.
The bad on the pitching side was Andury Acevedo who only went one inning of work. He allowed four hits to two walks and gave up five runs.
Again it wasn’t a day for Greg Bird on the field. He isn’t listed on the DL with the team so it will be interesting if they start him next week. Bird hasn’t played since June 22nd so hopefully he is fine.
