Tomorrow, 2012 first-round draft pick Ty Hensley will make his debut for the Staten Island Yankees. The 6-4, 220 pound right-handed pitcher is making his return from a hip injury that saw him miss the entire 2013 season.
“Physically I’m feeling good,” Hensley said, “I’ve grown up so much, just learning so much about the game being away from it. It could have all been a blessing in disguise. I’m talking all the positives I can away from it and I’m going to run with it.”
In 7 games this season Hensley has no record but pitched to a 2.36 ERA in 18 innings across seven games in the Gulf Coast League. Batters were hitting just .229 against him.
He had the chance to visit the stadium before the Baby Bombers return home from a trip to Connecticut. “[The] Staten Island stadium is unbelievable. That view is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.”
Tomorrow night the Staten Island Yankees start a three-game set with the Lowell Spinners.
