Higashioka Promoted to Scranton

TRENTON – Following the Thunder’s 11-4 victory over Hartford on Tuesday night, Manager Bobby Mitchell confirmed that catcher Kyle Higashioka was being promoted to Triple-A Scranton on Wednesday to take the place of Gary Sanchez, who was called up to the big league club.

The 26-year old Higashioka was an Eastern League All-Star and is the teams current leader in batting (.293) and home runs (11). He has driven in 51 runs and thrown out 30% of would-be base stealers behind the plate.

The move marks the second time this season that Higashioka will make the jump up to Triple-A. In his first taste of the action, he hit a robust .412 with 5 homers and 17 RBI in just 13 games. He was named the International League Player of the Week on June 13.

Catcher Fransisco Diaz is being promoted from Tampa and is expected to join the Thunder on Wednesday morning.
