Moosic, Pa. – A human cannonball will streak across the NEPA sky in advance of a wild fireworks extravaganza. That June 17 scene gives you a taste of the sizzle the SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) will display as they roll out their fully fleshed-out 2016 promotional schedule. A variety of new theme nights have been woven into this year’s docket. Below are three highlighted efforts:
Human Cannonball/Man vs. Marathon (Presented by Planet Fitness), June 17: Fireworks will cap off a truly athletic evening with a special guest appearance by Dan “The Bullet” Human Cannonball who will shoot across the field to begin a spectacular fireworks showcase. Before his gravity-defying wizardry, athletic achievements of a different sort will go head-to-head. What is the one commonality shared by baseball games and marathons? They take their share of time to complete. Groups of area athletes have teamed up to challenge the game of baseball in finishing their discipline before their counterparts. Relay teams of five runners will begin a race against baseball at 7:05 p.m. when the first pitch is thrown by your RailRiders. The question of which would happen first, the conclusion of a baseball game, or a full marathon, will be answered.
Pierogi Night, Aug. 26: Nostrovia! Not only to good health however, to good food as well. The team will adopt the nickname “Pierogis” for the night with jerseys, video board head shots and more. The celebration of the delicious local delicacy will include a good old-fashioned pierog-off at PNC Field. People from all over NEPA will be competing for the illustrious crown of “Best Pierogi”. With a variety of divisions, many fans will have a chance to have their voices heard and taste buds tantalized.
Mystery Bobblehead Night, Date TBA: A to-be-announced number of fans through the gates at PNC Field will receive a mystery bobblehead from somewhere in the world of sports. But who (or what) will serve as the bobblehead’s inspiration? Is it Derek Jeter? David Ortiz? Maybe even Pat Sajak? The RailRiders have accumulated bobbleheads from across the nation for their fans to add to their own collections. Even the date is a mystery! Expect it to be toward the end of the season.
“We have created what we think are some fun, innovative promotions for NEPA to enjoy over the 2016 season”, said RailRiders COO Josh Olerud. “This ranks as one of the most varied and entertaining promo schedules in all the minors.”
