Indians Nip RailRiders in Series Finale

MOOSIC, PA –  The Indianapolis Indians escaped PNC Field with a 2-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the RailRiders (15-16) against the Indians (18-13) at home.

Wilfredo Boscan (2-1) was the winning pitcher for the Indians, blanking the RailRiders over seven innings. The right-hander allowed five hits and struck out four. Veteran right-hander Kyle Davies (2-3) shouldered the loss despite tossing a quality start for SWB. Davies allowed two runs on three hits over six innings. Blake Wood notched his eighth save in relief.

After failing to pick up a hit through four innings, Indianapolis was able to scratch one across in the fifth for a 1-0 lead. Davies issued back-to-back walks to Elias Diaz and Tony Sanchez before surrendering a single to Hunter Morris that plated Diaz.

The Indians added to their lead in the sixth inning when Alen Hanson smoked a lead-off home run out to right. The round-tripper was his first of the year and put Indianapolis ahead 2-0.

The RailRiders finally scratched a run in the eighth against reliever A.J. Morris. Ramon Flores worked a walk to set the table for Rob Refsnyder. SWB’s second baseman scorched a double inside the third base bag to place two in scoring position. Tyler Austin hit a sacrifice fly to center that cut the deficit to 2-1. Morris rebounded to strike out Rob Segedin looking before reliever Blake Wood came on.

Wood closed out the final 1.1 innings to secure the win for Indianapolis.

The RailRiders will hit the road for the next seven games. The club opens a three-game series on Monday night against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles) at Harbor Park. RHP Bryan Mitchell (2-2, 2.59) will tale the hill for SWB, matching up with RHP Tyler Wilson (1-4, 3.58). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. For more information please call (570) 969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
