PULASKI, Va. – Third baseman Jose Javier hit his first home run of the season as the Pulaski Yankees (15-9) recorded a 7-3 win over the Burlington Royals (12-12) Friday night before 1,792 fans at Calfee Park.
The Yankees have won three straight and seven of their last 10.
Carlos Vidal and Austin Afenir joined Javier in compiling two-hit nights. Right-hander Melvin Morla picked up first win after two losses with six solid innings, allowing three runs on just two hits – both Burlington home runs – striking out five and not walking a batter.
The win allowed Tony Franklin’s team to reclaim sole possession of first place in the Appalachian Conference East. The Yankees return to the road for a three-game series with the Princeton Rays beginning at 7 Saturday evening. That will be followed by a three-game visit to Kingsport to battle the Mets before the returns home July 24 to host the Bristol Pirates.
