Jeff Hendrix is a junior at Oregon State who plays centerfield. He was draft eligible last year as a Sophomore and was taken by the Royals in round 39. He decided to go back to school and it paid off as he is a fourth round pick now.
Stats: This year Hendrix batted .324/.430/.518. He had nine doubles, three triples and four homeruns. This came after a stink in the Northwood league over the summer. There Hendrix batted .280/.389/.466 with a wood bat. He did hit for more power there as he had ten doubles, two triples and five homeruns.
Rankings: MLB didn’t have him ranked in their top 200 players. FG had him as the 173rd ranked player. Baseball America had him 156th.
My Take: I was chatting with Robert as the draft went on and said this pick seems like it was a pick like Michael O’Neil was. Yankees like kids who hit with wood and that’s what Hendrix did. Could he turn into a prospect, maybe. But right now looks more like a guy who is there to save a little money
