Hi, what are you looking for?

Joba’s Back!

Today’s GCL game was all about one player and that was Joba Chamberlain.  It didn’t matter that the Yankees lost 7 to 4 today.  This was the start of Chamberlain’s road back to the big leagues and it was great that he was back on the mound only four months after a horrendous ankle injury.

Joba gave up an unearned run today in his one inning of work.  He struck out two batters which is good to see.  Hopefully he gets a few more innings down here before being bumped up to High A.

Coming in after Chamberlain was Luis Niebla and he proceeded to get rocked.  In three and two thirds innings Niebla gave up nine hits that lead to five runs.  During those innings he only struck out two batters but he did get six groundball outs to only two fly outs.

Chaz Hebert came in at the end of the game and continued his good start to the season.  In his two innings he gave up two hits and one walk.  He also struck out two batters but only got one ground out to three fly outs.

Offensively this wasn’t a great today as the team went 5 for 32 with five walks.  Dan Brewer started his rehab assignment by going one for one with a walk that led to two runs.  Kevin Mahoney also began his rehab assignment by going one for two with a walk and a triple to round out his line.

Chris Breen had the next best day at the plate by going one for three with a run.

Tomorrow the Yankees will try to stop this bad stretch by playing the Braves at noon eastern time.
