Justus Sheffield Reportedly Set to Pitch in MLB Futures Game

RailRiders Manager Bobby Mitchell told reporters on Monday afternoon that Yankees top-pitching prospect Justus Sheffield will pitch in the Futures Game next Sunday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. as part of the MLB All-Star festivities.

The 22-year old southpaw is 2-3 with a 2.61 ERA in ten games (nine starts) for Scranton since being promoted from Double-A Trenton on May 6. Between the two levels, Sheffield has gone 3-5 with a 2.49 ERA in 15 games (14 starts). He has fanned 88 and walked 36 in 79 innings of work while the opposition is hitting a mere .190 against him.

The announcement is expected to be made official on Friday afternoon when full rosters for the Futures Game are slated to be revealed on MLB Network during the noon hour. The Futures Game in an annual exhibition contest that began in 1999 pitting the elite prospects in the game from the United States against a team composed of prospects from all around the world during MLB All-Star weekend.
