Moosic, Pa- An extra inning stalemate came to an end in ten innings as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/Yankees) fell short 6-3 to the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) at PNC Field. Jordan Lennerton broke the tie in the top of the tenth with a three-run home run against Jim Miller pushing the visitors to victory splitting the four game series.
The RailRiders (32-32) were the first ones to strike in the opening frame. With two outs and runners at the corners, Kyle Roller hit a three-run home run to give his club the lead. That would be all the runs the RailRiders mustered as Mud Hens (31-35) starter Drew Verhagen and the bullpen kept the RailRiders offense in check. SWB had a scoreless stretch lasting nine innings where 12 straight were retired to close the game.
SWB Shane Greene allowed a run on a wild pitch in the third and Toledo threatened for another with two outs. Wade Gaynor singled to left but a strong throw from Jose Pirela to Austin Romine at home gunned out Tyler Collins as he was trying to score from second to end the frame.
Greene finished the night tossing four innings allowing one run scattering eight hits and struck out four gave way to Mark Montgomery. Montgomery would give up the lead in the sixth inning with two outs as he allowed a double to Hernan Perez scoring Trevor Crowe and Danny Worth who singled prior tying the game 3-3.
Preston Claiborne tossed two scoreless innings before Jim Miller (4-2) relinquished the lead as he was tagged for the loss. Robert Refsnyder made his Triple-A debut going 2-for-4.
