Long Regains Form, Stifles Indianapolis

MOOSIC, PA. –  The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Indianapolis Indians 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The win gave the RailRiders (15-15) the series victory and their fourth straight in games decided by a run. Indianapolis fell to 17-13 with the loss.

Jaron Long (1-2) earned his first Triple-A win for SWB, pitching six innings. The right-hander struck out five and limited Indianapolis to one run on five hits. Jacob Lindgren struck out four batters in two innings, setting up Nick Rumbelow to earn his third save with a scoreless ninth. Casey Sadler (2-2) pitched well in defeat, holding the RailRiders to two runs on four hits across seven innings.

The RailRiders started the scoring early with a run in the first inning. Slade Heathcott led off with a single, increasing his hitting streak to seven games. After stealing third base, a sacrifice Tyler Austin brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Indians were able to manufacture a run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Deibinson Romero singled home Jose Tabata, who beat the tag of Austin Romine on a play at the plate.

Heathcott worked a walk off Sadler to being the sixth and quickly raced to third on a single to right by Ramon Flores. Sadler induced a double play grounder off Austin, but Heathcott scored from third for the decisive tally.

Lindgren and Rumbleow quelled the Indians’ bats over the final three innings to nail down the win.

The RailRiders go for the series sweep against the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates) on Sunday. First pitch at PNC Field is set for 1:05 p.m. RHP Kyle Davies (2-2, 6.30) is scheduled to face off with RHP Wilfredo Boscan (1-1, 3.70).
