Moosic, Pa. – New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka is set to make a rehab start with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) on Thursday, May 21 at PNC Field. Tanaka continues his comeback from right wrist tendinitis and a right forearm strain. He was placed on the disabled list April 29. Tanaka was 2-1 with a 3.22 ERA through four starts before going on the disabled list this year.
The native of Japan signed with the Yankees as a free agent in 2014. In 20 starts he posted a 13-5 record and an impressive 2.77 ERA with New York. He yielded only 42 earned runs across 136.1 innings while striking out 141 against 21 walks.
Prior to joining the Yankees, he pitched for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles if Nippon Professional Baseball’s Pacific League from 2007-2013. From 2012-2013, Tanaka won 26 consecutive decisions to set a new NPB record.
