John Manuel at Baseball America put out their 2nd mock draft of the year. You will see them start to put more out now that the draft is a month away or so. Here is a link to the article.
My take ways are this. The college pitching is still not there. Normally in the first twenty picks of a draft you will see 5-6 college starters be linked or picked. Right now there is three, AJ Puk, Connor Jones and Jordan Sheffield. Each of them has some warts also. Puk has had back issues and hasn’t dominated the way people thought he should. He did just have a great start against Georgia thou. Jones is from Virginia and they haven’t really produced great pitching prospects. Sheffield is moving up draft boards but there are concerns about his size and he also is coming back from Tommy John surgery.
Right now Manuel has the Yankees taking Ian Anderson. That is a name I hadn’t heard linked to the Yankees or being that high. Reports are probably just trickling in on him as he pitches in NY. Northeast pitchers tend to get buzz late as the season starts later than normal
