Nuding Tosses Gem, RailRiders win 2-0

Scranton, PA- Zach Nuding had his best outing as a RailRider as he stifled the dangerous Rochester Red Wings tossing a new career high eight innings while the offense did just enough to win 2-0.
Nuding, (2-2) allowed a lead-off James Beresford single to start the game and then Austin Romine and Nuding converted a strike him out, throw him out double play with Oswaldo Arcia at the plate to highlight the half inning.

The game cruised along as Nuding’s counterpart Logan Darnell (1-2) pitched well for the Red Wings but was on the short side of the pitching duel. The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two in six innings of work.

In the third inning, Romine led the frame off with a walk and then Jose Pirela ripped a one-out double over the third base bag which plated Romine to make it 1-0.

In the sixth inning, Scott Sizemore smacked a two-out solo home run for his first of the season to extend the RailRiders lead 2-0. Nuding continued to carve the Red Wings lineup as he had a stretch of 17 straight batters retired before Beresford led the top of the seventh off with a double. Arcia would follow with a single, putting runners on the corners. Nuding then got a pop out and an inning ending double play to wiggle out of his only jam of the evening.
Nuding finished the night tossing eight innings of scoreless baseball allowing just three hits while
striking out six.

Jose Ramirez came in to pitch the ninth inning and danced out of a bases loaded jam to earn his first save of the season.
The RailRiders will look for the series split in the concluding game of their short, four-game series against the Red Wings Sunday, May 25 at 1:05 p.m. at PNC Field. SWB will turn to right-hander Joel De La Cruz (1-1, 1.90) while Rochester will send southpaw Kris Johnson (3-2, 2.08).
