You never know what you’re going to see on Rookie Monday, and this one did not disappoint as the DSL Yanks put together a game for the ages.
FCL Yankees (11-5): Justin Lange’s long-awaited breakout led the Yanks to an easy 7-1 win over the visiting Phillies.
- Star of the Game: Justin Lange – 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K. Lange nearly equaled his strikeout total from his previous three starts in one afternoon, and nearly halved his ERA in the process
- Dayro Perez: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 strikeout
- Christopher Familia: 3-for-4, 1 home run (5), 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. Familia is leading the FCL in home runs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS – and he’s doing it while only having struck out three times total
- Felix Negueis: 2-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
- Luis Arejula: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
- Osiel Rodriguez: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Rodriguez earned his first career save for his multi-inning effort
DSL Yankees (6-11): There are some who probably learned via this game that the DSL does not have a mercy rule. The Yanks went ahead 9-1 early and then hung consecutive 10-spots on Pirates Black in the later innings, capping off a 32-3 laugher that somehow only took three hours and 42 minutes.
- Star of the Game: Keiner Delgado – 4-for-6, 1 home run (1), 1 double, 4 RBI, 4 runs scored, 1 stolen base. Delgado only came in third in RBI for this game, but he gets the nod for the award thanks to his first home run and his overall impressive start to the season
- Willy Montero: 3-for-7, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored
- Gabriel Bersing: 3-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Appropriately for this unhinged contest, Bersing’s steal was of home
- Juan Matheus: 3-for-5, 5 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Matheus is tied for the DSL lead with 19 RBI
- David Beckles: 3-for-5, 1 double, 6 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 strikeouts
- Santiago Gomez: 3-for-5, 1 double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk
- Sabier Marte: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
- Alejandro Gomez: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. Gomez picked up his first win
- Luis Urbano: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
DSL Bombers (11-6): Though overshadowed by their colleagues on Monday, the Bombers cruised to an 8-3 win over Cubs Red and are having the far better season overall.
- Star of the Game: Rafaelin Nivar – 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. The 20-year-old Nivar is somewhat advanced in age for a DSL rookie and was signed just over a month ago. Now, he has his first professional win
- Fidel Montero: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 2 stolen bases
- Joel Mendez: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 strikeouts
- Enger Castellano: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
- Daniel Guerrero: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
- Chalniel Arias: 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 0 K
- Pedro Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 5 K
