Pinstriped Performances: A Full Slate Of Action

All seven Yankees affiliates took to the field on Thursday for a total of eight games, including blowout wins for the RailRiders and Tarpons and a tough twin bill for the Renegades.

Armando Alvarez (Matt Bufano)

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (40-21): Arguably the RailRiders’ two best hitters, Hoy Jun Park and Trey Amburgey, received the call Thursday – so their teammates went out and celebrated with an 11-3 shellacking of Worcester.

  • Star of the Game: Armando Alvarez – 2-for-5, 1 double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored. Alvarez provided some big blows with a two-run single in the first and an RBI double in the third
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Matt Krook – 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 8 K, 83 pitches (53 strikes). Krook made his first start at Triple-A and did not disappoint
  • Estevan Florial: 1-for-5, 1 RBI, 4 strikeouts
  • Chris Gittens: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Ryan LaMarre: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk. LaMarre chipped in a solo homer in the ninth once the game was well out of hand
  • Greg Allen: 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk
  • Andrew Velazquez: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Asher Wojciechowski: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 60 pitches (43 strikes). Wojciechowski picked up a save in this blowout, but it was absolutely earned in his best performance by far as a Yankee farmhand

Somerset Patriots (40-22): The Patriots and Flying Squirrels went into extra innings for the second straight night, but this time it was the visiting team that emerged victorious, 6-5.

  • Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk. Peraza is getting it done these days, with his eighth-inning triple bringing Somerset within a run and setting him up to score from third on Oswaldo Cabrera’s sacrifice fly to tie the game
  • Diego Castillo: 1-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Castillo drove home the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th
  • Donny Sands: 2-for-5, 2 RBI
  • Isiah Gilliam: 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • JP Sears: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 78 pitches (47 strikes)
  • Michael Gomez: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches (23 strikes)
  • Addison Russ: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 3 K, 31 pitches (25 strikes). Russ allowed Richmond to score once in the 10th and threaten to tie the game up again, but shut the door to earn his first win with Somerset

Hudson Valley Renegades (40-23): The Renegades could not get much going offensively as they dropped both halves of their doubleheader by 3-2 and 2-1 scorelines.

Game 1

  • Star of the Game: Pablo Olivares – 3-for-3, 1 RBI. Olivares tied the game with a single in the fourth and was the only Renegade with more than one hit
  • Anthony Volpe: 0-for-4, 1 strikeout
  • Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-3, 1 strikeout
  • Josh Breaux: 1-for-3
  • Elijah Dunham: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Jhony Brito: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 3 K, 81 pitches (53 strikes)

Game 2

  • Star of the Game: Chad Bell – 1-for-2, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Bell struck the only real blow, giving them their only lead of the entire day at 1-0 in the second inning

Tampa Tarpons (43-19): Eight of nine starters recorded a hit and Edgar Barclay tossed another dazzling four relief frames in a comprehensive 8-1 win over Lakeland.

  • Star of the Game: Austin Wells – 1-for-3, 1 home run (8), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Wells is red hot this month, with three home runs and a .733 slugging percentage
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Edgar Barclay – 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K, 45 pitches (31 strikes). Tampa doesn’t have a more reliable option out of the pen right now. Barclay has to be pitching himself into the mix for a promotion
  • Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-5, 1 triple, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Dominguez cracked his first pro triple and has had a nice run early on with Tampa
  • Trevor Hauver: 2-for-5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Juan De Leon: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout

  • Jake Pries: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts

DSL Yankees 1 (2-1): The Yanks walked off Phillies Red by a 5-4 score.
