Pinstriped Performances: Bumps In The Road

Somerset is on cruise control with the playoffs already clinched, but they look to be taking their feet off the gas in concerning fashion. Buffalo and Scranton have battled to a stalemate so far in an important series.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (53-50): The RailRiders evened things up with the Bisons at two games apiece with a 5-0 win.

  • Star of the Game: Jhony Brito – 5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 7 K, 85 pitches (53 strikes). Brito set a Triple-A season high for strikeouts and his ERA sits at 2.79
  • Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 home run (15), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Peraza has a four-game hitting streak with two home runs over that span
  • Armando Alvarez: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored
  • Max McDowell: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk
  • Jose Mujica: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 34 pitches (22 strikes)
  • Zach Greene: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (8 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (60-39): The Patriots were swept by Binghamton in a doubleheader, 11-8 and 10-5, and they have dropped the first four games of their series with the Rumble Ponies.

Game 1

  • Star of the Game: Jesus Bastidas – 3-for-5, 1 home run (12), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Bastidas hit a two-out, three-run home run in the ninth inning for a small measure of satisfaction

  • Matt Minnick: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 38 pitches (25 strikes)

  • Kaleb Cowart: 0.0 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 20 pitches (3 strikes)
  • Tanner Myatt: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 24 pitches (16 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (53-45): The Renegades and BlueClaws will play a doubleheader tomorrow after their game was postponed.

Tampa Tarpons (47-51): It was an old fashioned pitcher’s duel at Steinbrenner Field, with the Threshers’ lone run in the ninth inning enough to send the Tarpons to a 1-0 defeat.

  • Star of the Game: Richard Fitts – 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 77 pitches (58 strikes). Fitts returned to his late June-early July form with his first quality start since July 1
  • Anthony Garcia: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 strikeouts
  • Benjamin Cowles: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Jared Serna: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Harold Cortijo: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 31 pitches (22 strikes)
  • Ryan Anderson: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 23 pitches (15 strikes). Anderson took the loss

FCL Yankees (28-12): The Yanks utterly dominated the Blue Jays 14-0 in a contest that included an eight-run fourth inning.

  • Star of the Game: Omar Martinez – 2-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Martinez lifted his OPS over 1.000 with a career day
  • Dayro Perez: 3-for-6, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Daury Arias: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks
  • Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-2, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 stolen base
  • Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-6, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Felix Negueis: 3-for-4, 1 double, 3 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base

  • Osiel Rodriguez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Rodriguez moved to 4-0 on the year with the win

  • Luis Arejula: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

DSL Yankees (20-24): The Yankees and Cubs Blue were suspended in the top of the second inning with the Cubs leading 1-0.

DSL Bombers (24-21): The Bombers teed off on Cubs Red, pulling away late for a 17-5 win.

  • Star of the Game: Fidel Montero – 1-for-2, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 4 runs scored, 3 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases. An all-around excellent day for the young outfielder, who is still hitting just .185 during a disappointing season
  • Joel Mendez: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Edinson Duran: 3-for-4, 1 triple, 5 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Oscar Silverio: 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Geralmi Santana: 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 6 K
  • Diego Hernandez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Hernandez got the win, his fourth of the year
